Missoula, Montana - Sun Mountain continues to be the defining force in the
evolution of the golf bag with the new ZERO-G(r) carry bag that transfers
the weight of the clubs from golfers' shoulders to their waists. ZERO-G is
carried like a traditional dual strap bag with the addition of a belt that
is naturally positioned at the hip and simply closed with an adjustable
Velcro(r) strap. ZERO-G allows the bag to feel nearly weightless by
transferring the majority of the weight off of the shoulders which results
in more upright posture and reduced upper body fatigue. ZERO-G is in stores
now with a full-suggested retail of $239.99. For the retailer nearest you,
call 800-227-9224 or visit www.sunmountain.com.

Research has shown that transferring carried weight from the upper body to
the lower body disperses that weight throughout the entire body allowing one
to walk with a more upright posture. It stands to reason that lightening the
load on the neck and shoulder muscles and transferring this load to the
larger muscles of the lower body can in fact improve one's game.

"We have had other strap systems that transfer weight from the shoulders to
the waist," explains Sun Mountain President, Ed Kowachek. "The advantage of
ZERO-G is that the fit can be customized to the golfer by simply adjusting
the length of the waist belt. ZERO-G is one size fits all and its use
quickly becomes second nature."

The belt on the ZERO-G is a one-size-fits all padded strap that threads
between the bag and the hip pad, adjusts simply from 28" - 46" and then
holds tight with a Velcro closure. As an added bonus the inside of the belt
on the ZERO-G is a non-slip rubberized material that holds the bag against
the golfer's body securely and keeps the bag from twisting or bouncing.

ZERO-G is a new performance enhancing carry system incorporated onto the
same frame as the Sun Mountain Superlight 3.5 that in 2001 broke the ultra
light barrier as a full-featured, 3-1/2 pound golf bag. ZERO-G includes a
built-in top collar handle that provides a convenient spot to grab when
removing the bag from the shoulder, top-molded stand attachment for
stability, and patented Roller-Bottom stand mechanism. The bag includes a
six-way top with full-length dividers; seven pockets including a full-length
clothing pocket, waterproof velour-lined valuables pouch, water bottle
pouch, and stacked accessory pockets; and Sun Mountain's Dual X-Strap system
for balanced carrying in an easy-on/easy-off design.

In addition to golf bags, Sun Mountain is dedicated to finding the most
innovative fabrics, the latest weaving processes, and the best designs to
manufacture a line of performance outerwear that includes rainsuits,
windshirts, fleece and the RainFlex(r) collection. Sun Mountain is an
officially licensed supplier of outerwear to the PGA Tour, Champions Tour,
Duramed Futures Tour, and Nationwide Tour. The Sun Mountain Speed Cart(r) is
the leader of the push cart market.

For over 25 years, Sun Mountain has been designing and manufacturing
functional, high-quality, lightweight golf bags for the serious golfer. Sun
Mountain is responsible for many industry firsts, including being the first
to use backpacking technology to produce a lightweight nylon golf bag, and
being the first to develop a stand bag with integral legs.

Looks like Mizuno has posted some teaser photos of the new MP-52 irons slated for release this fall. It looks as though they are ditching the cut muscle, and going with a 'dual muscle'?

Pictures of the new MP-62 should be available soon as well. They made an appearance at the PGA Championship this week. Here are the MP-52 pictures:

CARLSBAD, Calif. (August 1, 2008) – adidas Golf has introduced TOUR360 3.0, which, like TOUR360 and TOUR360 II before it, combines contemporary design with modern performance technologies. The result is a golf shoe that performs as beautifully as it looks.

First and foremost, TOUR360 3.0 features adidas Golf's proprietary 360WRAP, a visible technology that surrounds the midfoot area to promote enhanced upper stability, a glove-like fit and increased leverage. New to 360WRAP technology for the TOUR360 3.0 is three-dimensional molding, which allows the saddle to hug the midfoot more securely than ever before. This 3D fit is also the basis of the TOUR360 3.0's external molded Heel Cup technology. Inspired by cycling shoes, which enhance power transfer to the pedals with secure heel-fit systems, the three-dimensionally molded external heel-counter locks the foot in place and eliminates heel slippage, optimizing the golfer's power transfer.

TOUR360 3.0 is the second member of the TOUR360 line of footwear to incorporate adidas Golf's revolutionary THiNTech technology, joining TOUR360 LTD. THiNTech, created at the request of tour professionals, incorporates a one-piece TPU sole designed to position the foot closer to the ground, which creates a remarkably solid, responsive and stable shoe that makes hitting a golf ball a more tactile experience. It also lowers the athlete's center of gravity to promote increased stability, and channels feedback from the ground more efficiently to promote improved footwork. That helps the athlete hit the ball more solidly, more often.

TOUR360 3.0 footwear also incorporates adidas Golf's full footbed POWERBAND CHASSIS and split outsole Tour Platform, featuring a 10-cleat configuration for added traction, especially at higher swing speeds. Dynamic Traxion® cleats are designed in a low-profile and turf-friendly shape to help eliminate spike marks, and feature flexible legs to improve grip, comfort and durability.

Inside, the 3D FitFOAM™ sock liner delivers a customized fit for exceptional comfort and support. Outside, the beautiful full-grain leather upper works with strategically positioned TPU accents to enhance durability.

"TOUR360 is one of golf's truly iconic products, and the performance flagship of adidas Golf footwear," said Dave Ortley, adidas Golf's senior director of global footwear. "The evolution of a product like this is not to be taken lightly, as it represents leadership in both performance innovation and style. We are confident that TOUR360 3.0 will not disappoint."

TOUR360 3.0 is offered in medium and wide widths and a choice of three colorways: running white/black/victory red, black/black/metallic silver and running white/running white/black. Additional colorways will be added in February 2009. TOUR360 3.0 includes a two-year waterproof warranty and carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $180. Availability at retailers begins on September 1.

SUGAR GROVE, Ill., July 14, 2008 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Ashworth today jointly announced that Ashworth has been named the official outfitter of the 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup Team. Ashworth will outfit the U.S. Solheim Cup Team at the 2009 Solheim Cup, Aug. 21-23, at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Solheim Cup is a biennial trans-Atlantic match-play event featuring the top 12 U.S.-born players from the LPGA and the best European members from the Ladies European Tour (LET). The U.S. Team leads the competition, 7-3, and has never lost The Solheim Cup on home soil.

It is the first time Ashworth has been selected to design, create and supply the U.S. Solheim Cup Team’s official uniforms. As the official apparel provider, Ashworth will outfit U.S. Solheim Cup Team Captain Beth Daniel, Assistant Captains Meg Mallon and Kelly Robbins, and their 12-member team. U.S. team members—as well as all Solheim Cup volunteers—will wear Ashworth apparel each day of the three-day 2009 matches, during practice rounds as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

“I’m very excited to have Ashworth design the clothes for the 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup Team,” said U.S. Captain Daniel. “I know how important it is for the team to look good and be comfortable and Ashworth is going to assist us in making this possible. We’re delighted to be associated with a company like Ashworth.”

Because the items need to be functional, it was important for Ashworth to design a collection with equal parts style and spirit. To that end, the U.S. squad’s color palette will be both patriotic and unique—Cabernet, Shell Pink, Electric Blue, Stratus Blue and Fiery Red, grounded by Prairie and White. By adding the extra layers of pink and deep wine to the traditional color story, Ashworth will offer a wide variety of items to make a standout collection for the U.S. Team.

“It is obviously a privilege to have been selected for the first time to design, create and outfit the official uniforms for the 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup Team,” said Allan Fletcher, Ashworth’s Chief Executive Officer. “We have a great partnership with the LPGA, and Ashworth is proud to be affiliated with this tremendous event featuring the game’s finest women’s players on a world stage.”

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- Paula Creamer birdied nine of her last 11 holes to shoot a course-record 60 on the par-71 Highland Meadows course Thursday in the opening round of the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.

It was the 21-year-old's lowest LPGA round by four strokes. She matched the tour record of raw score for nine holes with a 27 on the home half.

The 60 was one off the LPGA mark set by Annika Sorenstam in the second round of the 2001 Standard Register PING on a par-72 course and matched the scores of three other players: Meg Mallon, Jung Yeon Lee and Anna Acker-Macosko.

Creamer would have had to hole out a 137-yard 7-iron from the fairway to shoot 59, though she didn't realize it at the time, thinking she was on a par-72 course. Her 20-foot birdie putt gave her the 60. On the previous two holes, she sank birdie putts from 5 and 14 feet.

With half the field in the clubhouse, she led by five strokes.

PLANO, TEXAS, July 7, 2008 – Recognizing the challenges some women face learning the game of golf, Square Two introduces the Selene 3-Piece Learning Kit, an affordable and attractive starter package that includes a 3-wood, 7 iron and pitching wedge. The Selene 3-Piece Learning Kit is officially endorsed by the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals.

The Selene kit was designed to provide the three fundamental club types for a woman who wants to learn and practice the game of golf without the initial expense of a complete set. Once she attains the skill and interest for more clubs, a 7-Piece Completer Collection can be purchased that will fill in the gaps and give her all the tools needed to take her game to the next level.

“At Square Two, we believe that any woman has the ability to play golf but many drop out because the borrowed equipment they often have to learn the game makes it difficult to enjoy the experience,” said Henry Lange, president of Square Two. “This is our opportunity to help grow the game of golf and introduce more women to a sport that we have a passion for. We believe that the Learning Kit is the easiest and most affordable option for the beginning woman golfer. It allows her to ‘test the waters’ and give her the best opportunity to learn the game without investing a lot of money and energy shopping for a complete set or using clubs that aren’t designed specifically for her.”

The Selene 3-Piece Learning Kit includes a lightweight, high launching 3-wood designed with a slight offset to help square the face at impact and an oversized sweet spot for added forgiveness. Also included is a 7-iron built with game-improvement features such as a large face, wide sole and cavity back. The pitching wedge rounds out the kit and delivers the control, feel and forgiveness needed in the short game. Each club is constructed from high-grade stainless steel and includes a lightweight, premium graphite shaft.

“Square Two has shown that it’s a company dedicated to growing the game of golf and designing products specifically for women. The Selene 3-Piece Learning Kit fills a need in the industry to help women take the right steps in becoming lifelong golfers and we’re proud to be associated with this great product,” said Patti Benson, LPGA national president, Teaching and Club Professionals.

As an added touch of instruction and inspiration, each club in the Selene set features a swing thought (“Finish”, “Target”, “Breathe”) engraved near the hosel to remind the golfer of proper technique and approach. The Selene 3-Piece Learning Kit is available in Petite, Standard and Tall lengths for right-handed players. Standard length is available for left-handed players. The SRP for the 3-Piece Kit is $99 and $249 for the 7-Piece Complete Set.

Westford, Massachusetts and New York, NY (May 28, 2008) – Today, PUMA® and Maxim Magazine announced the launch of The PUMA Open, a national golf event series unlike any other golf tournament. The global sportlifestyle brand, which is known for fusing the influences of sports, lifestyle and fashion, launched The PUMA Open as a way to shake up the traditionally stodgy sport and offer an inclusive and fun way to enjoy the game of golf, mixing the sport with gaming and fun activities. PUMA partnered with Maxim Magazine, the largest young men’s lifestyle magazine in America. The PUMA Open will visit six cities across the country beginning in June through October including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Austin. Teams of four will compete for great prizes, gifts and the grand prize of an all-expense paid trip to the Maxim Bungalows in the Dominican Republic.

The PUMA Open is a non-traditional golf event where teams of four compete in a nine-hole scramble, meant to test not only your golf know-how, but also your wit and skill. Participants must sign up to play in teams of four. Men and women over 21 are both eligible to play, from novice to expert golf players. The nine-hole scramble includes a mix of “traditional” golf holes where PUMA will test your golf skills mixed with a few golf hole challenges such as “Lucky 7” where participants must play the entire hole with their Seven Iron or the “On The Clock” Hole where the team who plays the hole in the shortest time receives a prize. After a round of golf played the PUMA way, participants will continue their adventure and go “all in” through a series of Vegas-style card games. The foursome that has combined best golf score and highest winnings at the gaming tables will win the ultimate grand prize – an all expense paid luxury trip to the Maxim Bungalows – Maxim’s exclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. Throughout the entire day, PUMA and Maxim keep the energy flowing with drinks, food, music and tons of prizes and gifts. A registration fee of $50 for each player is required and space is limited. Participants must sign up at www.thepumaopen.com

“The PUMA Open is the epitome of what PUMA Golf is all about – fun and inclusivity,” said Bob Philion, International Business Unit Manager for PUMA Golf. “Only PUMA can design an event like this for all types of golfers, from pros to beginners. The PUMA Open challenges a player’s golf skills, and infuses card games and fun activities to the sport, painting a true representation of PUMA Golf. We are all about mixing up the game and The PUMA Open does just that.”

PUMA and Maxim brought on-board several key partners to further engage and excite this year’s participants. Bud Light Lime is the official beer sponsor sampling cold beers for all the golfers. Don Julio Tequila will be mixing cocktails and sponsoring the “Know Your Tequila” Hole. Function Drinks, an innovative beverage brand that was created by physicians and employs all-natural, functional ingredients with real benefits, will be supplying fun drinks such as “Urban Detox” and “Shock Sports.”
AlmostGOLF, creators of the revolutionary new golf ball that allows golfers to play and practice practically anywhere, will sponsor one of the golf holes called the “AlmostGOLF Hail Mary.” RCA Small Wonder will be the event’s official digital camcorder partner, allowing participants to capture their experience at the “On The Clock” video hole. RCA Small Wonder will be providing digital camcorders to the hole winners and through the technology of the new RCA Small Wonder camcorders participants upload their videos directly to the internet or share it via email. And PUMA licensee partners, PUMA Time and PUMA Eyewear will be participating with prizes.

The waterproof pockets and rainhood on the H2NO feature the same waterproof
construction as Sun Mountain's line of rainwear to include waterproof
fabric, taped seams, and YKK(r) waterproof zippers. The extra technology
required to make a bag waterproof will be much appreciated by golfers who
carry items like cigars, mobile phones, and scorecards from
once-in-a-lifetime rounds. Additionally, when used with the matching
rainhood the H2NO offers waterproof protection for the entire bag including
the clubs.

Built upon the same frame as Sun Mountain's Superlight 3.5, the H2NO carry
bag features all of the innovations that make the Superlight so popular.
These features include the patented built-in top collar handle, providing a
convenient spot to grab when removing the bag from the shoulder, top-molded
stand attachment for stability, and patented Roller-Bottom stand mechanism
for easy leg activation. Additionally, H2NO features ample storage space
with six pockets to include a full-length clothing pocket, waterbottle pouch
and velour-lined valuables pocket.

The new built-in top collar handle is part of the H2NO carry bag's
integrated one-piece top that combines the top cuff, the built-in collar
handle, and the upper stand bracket. This six-way top with full-length
dividers also offers a higher strap attachment point that effectively moves
the center of gravity of the bag resulting in a more balanced bag for easier
carrying. The H2NO stand bag features Sun Mountain's E-Z Fit(r) Strap System
full-length clothing pockets, multiple accessory pockets, a velour-lined
valuables pocket, and a beverage pocket all front facing for easy access
when the bag is on the cart.

CARLSBAD, Calif.—Ashworth Inc., a leading designer of on-course golf apparel and golf-inspired lifestyle sportswear, is introducing a versatile Fall 2008 women’s collection to complement the equally versatile Fall 2008 men’s collection that debuted at January’s PGA Merchandise Show and will soon begin hitting golf-shop shelves. Among their many attributes, the men’s and women’s collections place importance on fabrics and attention to detail, respectively.

The Fall ’08 men’s season represents a feeling of Déjà vu for the Ashworth brand, which was founded in January 1988 on the premise of replacing the 100 percent polyester golf shirts that then dominated the industry. The first thing Ashworth did for Fall 2008 was to research and test the newest and most innovative blended fabrics, 100 percent natural fabrics and organic fabrics to determine which ones could work into the company’s design philosophy, which is to design more to a mindset than to an age demographic.

“To me, the fabric is 90 percent of the design effort,” says John Ashworth, the company founder who returned to Ashworth last year as a design consultant. “We take great pride in the craftsmanship of garment making and apply that to the usage of a golfer for on or off the course.”

Ashworth’s Fall 2008 women’s collections are more focused than ever before, and look toward the company’s future instead of into its past. Ashworth didn’t compare itself to its competitors but rather looked at women’s apparel in general to find the best fabrics, flattering silhouettes (in look and golfing comfort) and great fit. Ashworth then spent much of its attention on the smallest details—satin ribbon set into the inner waistband, delicate zipper pulls, buttons, printed linings and logo tabs. These hidden or subtle details will surprise golfers upon closer inspection of the garment.

“The quality and sophistication of our Fall 2008 men’s and women’s collections are absolutely incredible,” says Eddie Fadel, Ashworth’s President. “Golfers will love the selection of our versatile lines, and the fact they can wear our apparel on and off the course in comfort and style.”

MEN’S FALL 2008

Ashworth’s new men’s Fall 2008 categories include Third Groove Performance fabrics, EZ Tech Hi-Def 100% Luxury Cotton, environmentally friendly Ashworth Organics and young-minded ASHW33.

Ashworth is replacing 100% polyester with its Third Groove Performance category of golf shirts, which are made of innovative blends of pima cotton and polyester that are the ultimate in performance, comfort and style. The performance attributes include moisture wicking, breathability, lightweight, no snagging and no odor issues.

Ashworth is continuing, yet improving upon, its state-of-the-art EZ Tech Hi-Def Luxury 100% Cotton fabric shirt category, which is geared for a more classic, refined look. The company has added a specialized “innosoft” finish that gives the fabric a lustrous feel of luxury, but is easy care and won’t wrinkle or shrink. This very soft, comfortable, lightweight cotton also has a special no-curl collar.

Ashworth Organics is a brand-new, great-looking capsule line made of sustainable, recyclable or 100 percent organic cottons. Ashworth Organics’ colors can cross merchandise with the other pieces in the line. Ashworth Organics incorporates some very comfortable fabrics and classic styles that take a step for environmentally friendly products. In fact, this part of the collection is tagged with a new “Ashworth Organics” label and a hangtag that exclaims “For the Game, For the Planet.”

Another new capsule line called ASHW33 is geared for a slightly younger, hipper mindset. This avante garde look is designed with performance fabrics and unique graphic elements, stitching details and subtle treatments. This shirt group boasts a “mod fit,” which is a slimmer fit by one size from Ashworth’s classic fit. The company has a deep respect for the game’s history and virtues, and attempts to incorporate that vibe into its clothing. The “33” logo is open to interpretation. It’s basically a magical universal number. In life it’s where youth intersects experience. It’s a reminder to “mellow out.” Another new logo is a crest that reads “Kings and Commoners,” which is a reminder that golf is an inclusive, not exclusive, game.

Also on the Fall 2008 men’s side, Ashworth Weather Systems is no longer dedicated to polyester knit shirts. Instead, AWS focuses on making layered pieces that help golfers battle the elements. Quietness, breathability and stretch are the key attributes of these pieces—a full seam-sealed rain suit, mid-layer waterproof shells and packable wind/water-resistant shells. AWS also includes a remarkable selection of 100% super-soft merino wool layering pieces from Australia.

Ashworth’s pants and shorts are more unique in pattern with unexpected details, mostly flat-front styles and in colors that complement its knit top collections. Ashworth has some great core basic models in addition to a variety of novelty choices in the bottoms category.

Color scheme for the men’s Fall 2008 collection is varied and exciting. The colors for the fashion collection shipping May 15—which for anywhere north of the equator means summertime—will be clean tones on the cool side with aqua, reed, fescue, blue grass and an orange/red tone as a contrast color and accent. Two neutrals, a lighter bone color and a graphite gray, act as a foundation and, of course, since it’s summer there will be plenty of white involved.

The fashion collection shipping in mid July will transition into fall. The color palette is saturated with rich colors—espresso, blackberry, rhumba red and graphite gray—yet has a cool balance with a light, clean Caribbean blue and a medium new blue, and is grounded with a sand and fog heather. The Organic portion of this group is made up of heather colors of the same tones, giving the group a distinct depth.

The anchor color for the fashion collection shipping mid September—primarily designed for the nation’s sunbelt region’s golf shops—is an indigo blue mixed with three shades of blue, a light silverpoint, a mid-tone Welsh blue and a royal blue. These blues are offset by several unique warm shades—an earth yellow called Sunrise and a mid tone called sunset. An ample supply of white completes this group.

WOMEN’S FALL 2008

Some of the trends Ashworth incorporated into its Fall 2008 women’s lines include monochromatic prints, oversized buttons, lightweight sweaters and outerwear. Because golf is truly a lifestyle, Ashworth designed some items that can be worn from the golf course straight into the golfer’s daily off-course activities.

Ashworth feels it is important to look and feel good in golf apparel, so it takes pride in each item’s function. Front and back pockets on all its bottoms can be used to store ball markers, tees, ball, etc. The company offers the latest in “performance” cotton—a hybrid cotton/polyester high-twist yarn that has a soft hand but wicks moisture away from the body, and also dries quickly. All of Ashworth’s knit range is cotton rich, very comfortable fabrications that allow for a soft hand.

Each of the three Fall 2008 Women’s collections—California, New York and Hawaii—has its very own identity. This was achieved through color scheme, styling, fabrics and trims.

The first collection, California, has a very specific Southern California feel. It is made up of warm tones of yellow and crisp white with some soft-khaki accents. Knit fabrications include cotton/modal/spandex blends offering beautiful drape and stretch. A variety of monochromatic prints offer a third dimension to this collection. A hooded tunic terry pullover and cotton/rayon/spandex dress add to this collection’s “lifestyle.”

The second collection, New York, has a very preppy, East Coast feel. Silhouettes are very traditional, yet sophisticated. The collection contains very classic colors—black, white, khaki and a very rich red tone—and offers lots of variety in layering pieces, which is key for this delivery. Sweaters are rich in both hand and color. Fabrications for sweaters include 100% wool, cotton/wool and cotton/cashmere blends. Geometric and argyle patterns represent this group’s preppy feel.

Hawaii, the third collection, has a water theme and consists of deep blues and vibrant crisp aqua greens. This collection offers a performance edge with a selection of knits that are moisture wicking, quick drying and breathable. These are made of a blend of two high-twisted yarns that provide fantastic hand, comfort and durability.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 4, 2008) – TaylorMade Golf, which created the modern hybrid category when it launched the legendary TaylorMade® Rescue® Mid in 2003 and which has dominated the hybrid market ever since, has introduced the next generation of Burner® Rescue hybrids. Two versions are available: Burner Rescue High Launch, engineered to make it easy to launch the ball on a towering, long-carrying flight at average swing speeds; and Burner Rescue Tour Launch, engineered to promote the kind of lower, penetrating and workable ball flight that skilled players with higher swing speeds prefer.

Burner Rescue High Launch and Burner Rescue Tour Launch hybrids both share several key performance elements. First is Dual Crown technology, wherein the size of the crown is noticeably smaller than the large sole. The weight saved by Dual Crown technology is redistributed to create an exceptionally deep CG location that's lower than previous Burner Rescue clubs, making both of these new clubs extremely easy to hit while generally promoting a lower spin-rate for longer distance.

Both new Burner Rescue hybrids also feature a fast-looking triangular Burner head shape that permits an ultra-deep CG location, which makes the High Launch and Tour Launch extremely easy to launch the ball high and long with. A key difference is that the Tour Launch CG is more forward (closer to the clubface) than that of the High Launch, giving the Tour Launch a lower flight and a greater degree of workability, which better players prefer.

The two new types of Burner Rescue clubs also differ in that the High Launch is designed with a shallower clubface to promote more spin than the Tour Launch in order to keep the ball in the air longer for greater carry and distance. The High Launch is also engineered with a slight draw bias, to help prevent a slice while encouraging a distance-enhancing draw.

In contrast, the Burner Rescue Tour Launch is designed with a taller face profile and larger toe area, which lends an appearance at address specifically requested and preferred by tour pros. The Tour Launch is also engineered with a slight fade bias, which is also favored by tour pros and better players to help prevent a hook.

Both the Burner Rescue High Launch and Burner Rescue Tour Launch incorporate TaylorMade's SuperFast technology, to promote faster swing speed for increased distance. Burner High Launch combines a SuperFast 60-gram graphite shaft with Arrow 2 ultra-light 47-gram grip; Burner Tour Launch combines an 85-gram graphite shaft with Tour Velvet 52-gram grip.

Burner High Launch Rescue Hybrids come in four lofts: 3, 4, 5 and 6 while Burner Tour Launch Rescue hybrids come in three lofts: T2, T3 and T4. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $219 per club for graphite shafts and $175 per club for steel shafts. Availability for all begins at TaylorMade's retail partners starting in June.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 4, 2008) – TaylorMade Golf, maker of the tour-proven Tour Burner® driver with Dual Crown technology, has introduced the next generation of Burner fairway woods, available in two versions: High Launch, engineered to make it easy to launch the ball on a towering, long-carrying flight at average swing speeds; and Tour Launch, engineered to promote the kind of lower, penetrating and workable ball flight that skilled players with higher swing speeds prefer.

Burner High Launch and Burner Tour Launch fairway woods share several key performance elements. First is Dual Crown technology, wherein the size of the crown is noticeably smaller than the large sole. Second is Ultra-Thin Wall technology, which allows the clubhead walls to measure as thin as just .55 millimeters. All of the weight saved by Dual Crown technology and Ultra-Thin Wall technology is redistributed to create an exceptionally deep CG location that's also 35%* lower than previous comparable Burner fairway woods, making both of these new clubs extremely easy to hit while promoting a lower spin-rate for longer distance.

Both new Burner fairway woods feature a fast-looking triangular Burner head shape that looks large when positioned behind the ball, to inspire confidence. The larger triangular head of the Burner High Launch makes possible an exceptionally deep, far-from-the-face CG location that makes it easy to launch the ball while also contributing to greater stability and forgiveness. The Burner High Launch boasts the largest size and footprint of any TaylorMade® steel fairway wood, and its MOI measures 6% higher than TaylorMade's previous Burner fairway woods. In contrast, the new Burner Tour Launch features a slightly more compact head shape with a more forward CG location, elements that are preferred by better players.

Both new Burner fairway woods incorporate TaylorMade's SuperFast technology, to promote faster swing speed for increased distance. Burner High Launch combines a SuperFast 49-gram graphite shaft with Arrow 2 ultra-light 44-gram grip; Burner Tour Launch combines a 70-gram graphite shaft with Tour Velvet Lite 44-gram grip.

Three Burner High Launch fairway woods are available in 3 (15°), 5 (18°) and 7 (21°) woods and three Tour Launch fairway woods are available: TS (Tour Spoon) at 13°, T3 at 14.5°, and T5 at 17.5°. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $240 per club; availability begins at TaylorMade's retail partners starting in June.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 4, 2008) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company and Nickent Golf reached an agreement with regard to claims by Nickent in print and television advertising and on its website.

Per the terms of the judgment, Nickent is permanently enjoined from, among other things, advertising in any medium a claim which Nickent does not have a reasonable and factually supportable basis to believe to be true at the time the claim is published, at the time the claim is submitted for publication and for the time the medium is expected to be "in circulation" or publication.

TaylorMade filed the lawsuit against Nickent with regard to claims made in Nickent's recent print and television advertising and on its website concerning the purported success of Nickent drivers on tour. As a result of the stipulated judgment, Nickent will need to comply with specific criteria in the injunction before making similar claims in the future.

"We are pleased that we were able to obtain a permanent injunction that will prevent Nickent from attempting to transfer an isolated driver count figure into a broad "#1" claim, as Nickent had done in the past," said Bob Maggiore, TMaG's vice president of marketing. "TaylorMade has been the No. 1 driver on the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour since 2001. So, when others attempt to mislead the public we need to stand up."

If there are any other angles you'd like to see, or compared to any other irons (assuming I have them around), I'll try and take some more pictures. Enjoy!

FORT WORTH, Texas — High-performance graphite shafts designed and manufactured by UST (United Sports Technologies®) delivered an impressive international victory this weekend with its new ‘AXIV Technology’ — an exotic material that resists deformation at impact and then restores the shaft to its normal shape more efficiently.

The champion at this week’s BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour played the Accra™ XC65 shaft with UST’s ‘AXIV Technology’ in his PING driver, UST Proforce 75 in his 3-wood and UST Proforce V2 76 in his 4-wood. With the win, he became the first player to claim the BMW treble when he blasted a perfect drive and birdied the second hole of sudden-death at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. He previously won the BMW Asian Open and the BMW International Open in 2004.

“Delivering superior accuracy and consistency at the highest levels of the game has always been a prerequisite at UST, and the AXIV Technology has definitely delivered real performance since the prototypes were first introduced on tour last year,” says Jim McIntosh, tour representative for UST. “Unlike any other shaft on the market today, AXIV Technology weaves four different modulus carbon fibers in four different directions all in one ply of material. It is the most unique material in graphite shaft production today and the new technology is already a proven performer on the world tours with multiple wins.”

Engineered by UST, AXIV Technology creates a ‘Rapid Shaft Recovery System’ that resists deformation and returns the shaft to a round shape faster than any other shaft on the market. The ‘loading’ and ‘unloading’ of the golf swing, alters the characteristics and shape of a shaft. The AXIV Tetra-Axial weave not only aids in the recovery of the shaft to ensure a consistent return to the ball with each swing, the single ply offers superior feel in the hands. The new AXIV technology ‘sets a new bar’ for innovations in premium golf shafts.

“UST’s commitment to real innovation and our consistent level of performance is why world-renowned pros such as Davis Love III, Jim Furyk, Rod Pampling and many others trust high-performance UST shafts,” adds McIntosh.

PLANO, TEXAS, May 14, 2008 – Adams Golf (NasdaqCM:ADGF) introduces the latest offering of its successful and industry-leading Idea franchise with the new Idea Pro Gold hybrid and hybrid irons. Designed for better players, the premium set features two Pro Gold hybrids that deliver a penetrating ball flight and extra forgiveness along with six forged, tour-quality irons that deliver exceptional feel and workability. The Idea Pro Gold hybrid may also be purchased individually.

With its Idea hybrids ranking as the most-played on the 2008 PGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours, Adams Golf engineers were able to canvass the tours with hybrid prototypes in an effort to gain feedback from the world’s best golfers. The result is the Idea Pro Gold hybrid that utilizes advanced geometric shaping (known as Boxer Technology), an improved maraging steel face and an enhanced weighting system. The result is a new standard in hybrids designed for elite players, combining 5% more forgiveness on off-center hits with a 10% improvement in launch conditions while retaining the look, feel and workability that has made the Idea Pro hybrid the #1 hybrid played on tour.

The 5-PW forged irons appeal to better players with a thin top line and sole. An 8620 carbon steel head is finished with a mirror-chrome plating that adds a premium look to the set. The constant offset through the irons offer better control for players wanting to work their ball flight and the 14% volume increase in the face grooves result in better accuracy and feel.

“We’re proud to introduce the Idea Pro Gold hybrid and hybrid irons to consumers after thoroughly and successfully testing the product on tour for over a year in which we gained invaluable feedback from, not only or tour staff pros, but also hundreds of players with various swing types and launch conditions,” said Chip Brewer, Adams Golf president and CEO. “We’re delivering a product that we feel has unique qualities and benefits that better players will appreciate and we’re eager to strengthen our leadership position in the hybrid and hybrid iron categories with this new set.”

The stock shaft for the Idea Pro Gold Boxer Hybrid is the Mitsubishi Rayon JAVLN FX 80-gram graphite shaft. The stock shaft for the forged irons is the Precision Rifle Project X Flighted steel shaft. The Golf Pride DD2 grip is the stock offering in the 8-piece set and the hybrid headcovers are gold and black striped knit socks from Rocket Tour. The 8-piece sets begin shipping to golf shops June 1 with a suggested retail price of $1,099 for graphite and $899 for steel. The SRP for the individual Pro Gold Boxer Hybrids is $219.

Sean on "Annika to retire this year"

Annika Sorenstam will retire after the season, ending an LPGA Tour career in which she has won 72 tournaments to date and delivered a defining moment when she teed it up against the men on the PGA Tour.

She was to announce her decision at a news conference Tuesday at the Sybase Classic in Clifton, N.J., a person familiar with her plans told The Associated Press.

The 37-year-old Sorenstam has hinted at retirement the past several seasons, saying she wanted to devote more time to her growing business and to start a family. She is engaged to Mike McGee, son of former PGA Tour player Jerry McGee.

“This would be very much like Annika to get on top and then quit,” said Judy Rankin, a Hall of Famer and television analyst.

The decision comes two days after Sorenstam won the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill by seven shots for her third victory of the season, and first against a field that included Lorena Ochoa. It was a sign that Sorenstam had fully recovered from injuries and was poised to make a strong big at recapturing her stature as the best in women’s golf.

“I just hope to continue this momentum,” Sorenstam said after winning. “I’m feeling it. It’s turning around, and so I can’t wait for the next month or so to come with big tournaments, and I’m excited.”

Sorenstam dominated women’s golf like few others, especially during a five-year period when she won 43 times and finished among the top three nearly 70 percent of the time. But for all her achievements—the only woman to shoot 59, 10 majors and one of six women to complete the career Grand Slam—she became most famous for testing herself against the men.

Sorenstam became the first woman in 58 years to complete on the PGA Tour when she played at the Colonial in 2003. She missed the cut, but earned worldwide respect for the way she handled herself amid massive scrutiny.

She won LPGA Tour player of the year a record eight times, including five straight seasons until Ochoa ended the streak in 2006. Sorenstam was ineffective most of 2007, the first time in 12 years she failed to win on the LPGA Tour, as she recovered from back and neck injuries.

She won the first tournament of the year in Hawaii, picked up a playoff victory in South Florida three weeks ago, then continued a slow rise in the world rankings toward Ochoa with a dominant victory in Virginia.

But when asked Sunday if she would defend her title at Kingsmill, Sorenstam hedged.

“I hope so,” she said. “I’m going to continue this year the way I started it and at the end of the year. I always assess it like I have the last few years. At this point, I feel great about what I’m doing.”

Sorenstam’s 72 victories put her third on the LPGA Tour’s career list behind Kathy Whitworth (88) and Mickey Wright (82). She is tied for fourth in career majors, five behind record-setter Patty Berg.

But those kind of marks never appealed to Sorenstam, even when she was winning at least 10 times during a season. She often talked about stopping sooner than people imagined to pursue other interests, whether that meant her affinity for cooking or fitness.

Sorenstam opened a golf academy last year near her home in Orlando, Fla., also launching her brand (“Annika”) and a Web site. Sorenstam plans to marry next spring.

She is not the first LPGA Tour star to retire early. Wright, whom many regard as the best, stopped playing a full schedule when she was 34 and won the last of her 82 tournaments at age 37.

At the end of the ‘07 season, Sorenstam felt she had arrived at “the back nine of my career.”

“I’ve done a lot, and I’m satisfied in a lot of things,” she said. “I’ve achieve so much more than I ever thought I could.”

Original Source

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 12, 2008) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf (TMaG) Tour Staff professional Sergio Garcia used TaylorMade's new Tour Burner® driver in a performance for the ages en route to winning the 2008 Players Championship, including a performance from the tee on Friday that a former PGA Tour player and veteran NBC on-course analyst called it " the best driving round of golf I have ever seen."

"Under the conditions, I think it was definitely my best driving round ever," said Garcia of Friday's round. "More than anything because I was placing it where I wanted, on the side of the fairway where I needed to be."

Garcia's success off the tee throughout the week repeatedly put him in optimum position to hit green after green, which proved a huge advantage over his competitors. For the week he averaged 283 yards off the tee, ranked No. 1 in driving accuracy and No. 1 in greens in regulation.* In the first round he hit 16 of 18 greens; in the second round he hit every fairway.

In fact, Garcia's relentless tee-to-green game made victory possible. On a "second-shot" course that demands precision approaches, he again and again found the proper fairway landing areas off the tee, thanks to the power and precision of his Tour Burner driver and the wind-beating aerodynamics of his TP Red™ ball with LDP technology. Following the event he called the TP Red "easily the best wind ball I've ever played."

Playing in the penultimate group on Sunday, Garcia buried a seven-foot par-putt on the 72nd hole to stay within a shot of the lead. Moments later the leader, in the final twosome, missed his own 15-footer for par, forcing a sudden-death playoff with Sergio that started on the infamous par-three 17th at TPC Sawgrass. Challenged by strong winds that gusted throughout the day, Garcia's tee shot, with a TaylorMade® Z TP sand wedge, landed safely near the center of the island and trickled to within four feet of the cup; his opponent's found the water. Two putts later, the Spaniard had won the biggest event of his life.

The new Tour Burner driver features TaylorMade's Dual Crown technology to help players of all types launch the ball higher and with less spin, promoting increased distance and control. Learn more.
The Players Championship, considered by many to be golf's "Fifth Major," annually boasts what is arguably the strongest field of any professional tournament in the world. The win gives Garcia, 28, more PGA Tour titles, seven, than any player under 30, and also vaulted him from 16th place to 3rd on the World Ryder Cup points list.

TaylorMade was the No. 1 brand of driver, fairway wood, hybrid and iron at The Players Championship, and the Tour Burner driver was the most-player model for the seventh consecutive week on the PGA Tour. Five of the top nine finishers in the "Fifth Major" relied on TaylorMade equipment. The runner-up used TaylorMade's Rossa® Monza® Spider putter to finish No. 1 in the field in putts per round and No. 1 in putts per GIR.

Sean on "Fairway & Greene Holding Nationwide Visual Merchandising Seminars"

SHELTON, CONNECTICUT-Fairway & Greene-already the high-end green-grass apparel market's unparalleled leader in product quality, customer service and sales support-is further enhancing its well-deserved reputation by holding a series of regional Visual Merchandising seminars nationwide, including several affiliated with the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM).

"The No. 1 educational request from AGM members was asking us to hold regional merchandising seminars," says Todd Martin, president of Fairway & Greene, which has been named the top men's apparel vendor for five consecutive years in the AGM's annual Member Survey. "We're truly honored that the AGM members trust our knowledge and judgment so much in the area of Visual Merchandising. All the PGA Merchandise Show attendees who raved about our windows and spectacular booth displays this year in Orlando know that Andrea Rowan, our Director of Visual Merchandising, is one of the best."

Prior to joining Fairway & Greene, Rowan founded her own company specializing in Visual Merchandising for golf shops in Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester, New York counties. She had previously worked as a Merchandising Manager for Abercrombie & Fitch and Banana Republic, and was a Visual Merchandiser for Plaza Too, a high-end shoe and accessories store.

Thanks to Rowan's unique knowledge of the inner workings of golf shops, she understands that while many of Fairway & Greene's customers have the fashion sense, shop space and clientele to showcase the company's product with an incredible boutique-like flair, many don't have the ability or tools to create elaborate displays. Thus, when so many AGM members requested merchandising seminars from Fairway & Greene, Rowan agreed with Martin that, true to the company's dedication to its customers, it would be an extremely educational service to hold seminars that provided golf professionals with the knowledge of how to best utilize their shelf space to showcase product for maximum impact. "We have an old expression at Fairway & Greene, and that's "the eyes eat first". It has to look good for people to make the purchase".

Rowan's third seminar is scheduled in West Palm Beach, Florida in mid May. The first two seminars were held March 5 in Phoenix, Arizona, and March 11 at Wichita (Kansas) Country Club.

"My goal for this workshop is to make Visual Merchandising as easy as swinging a golf club," Rowan says. "Fashion is as foreign to [these golf professionals] as golf is to me. I thought about the overwhelming amount of information I receive every time I've taken a golf lesson. I was thinking so much I couldn't think clearly and could barely hit the ball. Finally, a great golf pro gave me the most simple advice-'Don't think, just swing back and through the ball.' Now when I play, the only two words I think about are, 'back and through,' and most of the time I hit it straight down the middle.

"I use the same keep-it-simple philosophy with Visual Merchandising," Rowan says. "I narrowed Visual Merchandising down to two simple words-outfitting and balance. These are the same two simple words I use when analyzing a display or a window I create for Fairway & Greene. Outfitting keeps your display interesting and enticing. It plants the seed and tells the story."

"The only other thing a shop needs is balance," Rowan says. "Balance makes shopping easy. The more balance you have, the better the traffic flow. That means the customer is seeing more, spending more time and buying more. It's that simple."

"A golf shop will be well merchandised if those two words-outfitting and balance-enter the golf professional's mind when he or she is buying, setting walls, placing fixtures and looking for props," Rowan says. "And you cannot underestimate the importance of lighting. Maybe 1 of every 100 golf shops I am in has the correct lighting. It's one of the most critical things to a quality retail environment".

The AGM Visual Merchandising seminars are just the latest contribution Fairway & Greene has made to the green-grass and resort golf channels over the years. And Fairway & Greene's continued solid sales growth underscores how it is meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of the golf industry and consumers alike.

Fairway & Greene is proud of its strong vendor/partner relationships with PGA golf professionals, who are the golf industry's stewards, ambassadors and innovators. Because the company builds brands and programs specifically designed for golf professionals, Fairway & Greene plays a key supporting role in its efforts to continually elevate the sport and serve its customer base.

Founded in 1995, Fairway & Greene is widely acknowledged as the leader in the high-end green-grass apparel market. With an unparalleled emphasis on product quality, customer service and sales support, the company has rapidly grown and is currently sold in over 3,500 of the finest private clubs, resorts and clubs in the world.

PLANO, TEXAS, April 21, 2008 – By winning his second straight Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am title on Sunday, Adams Golf Tour Staff Pro Tom Watson’s combined win total on the Champions Tour and PGA TOUR climbed to 50. This was Watson’s 11th Champions Tour victory, his first in 2008. He won 39 times, including eight majors, on the PGA TOUR.

Watson started the final round three shots back from the leader and finished at 9 under par, one stroke ahead of fellow Adams staffer Scott Hoch. Playing with a complete bag of Adams Golf clubs, Watson finished the tournament ranked first in Greens In Regulation and 18th in Driving Distance. He played the Idea Pro Forged Irons, two Idea Pro Hybrids, an Insight Tour 3-wood, the Redline RPM Dual Driver and two Tom Watson Signature wedges.

Watson’s victory was the 6th Champions Tour win in 2008 for the Adams Golf Tour Staff. Of the first nine events of the season, Adams Golf representatives Jerry Pate, Scott Hoch (2), Bernhard Langer (2) and now Watson have taken up consistent residency on the final round leaderboards. As with its tour pros, Adams Golf equipment remains consistent by capturing the #1 ranking on the hybrid count at the event; the latest in a long, unbroken line of hybrid count wins dating back to the end of the 2005 season.

Adams Golf also continued its hybrid leadership position on the PGA TOUR by winning the hybrid count at the Verizon Heritage Classic in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Nearly 30 percent of all hybrids in play at the event were Idea hybrids. This was the 14th hybrid count win of 2008 for Adams Golf, according to the Darrell Survey.

As the Nationwide Tour started up again after its off-week, Adams Golf hybrids continued to be the favorite of the field. With a total of 69 Idea hybrids in play or 45% of the category, Adams more than doubled the second place company, which put 27 in play. The company’s streak of hybrid count wins on the Nationwide Tour dates back to the summer of 2006. Four players who finished in the Top 10 played at least one Idea hybrid, including the Idea a3 and the Idea Pro.

Sean on "Tiger Woods has Knee Surgery"

The U.S. Open figured to be the closest to a sure thing for Tiger Woods in the majors this year, but maybe not anymore.

Two days after his quest for a Grand Slam fizzled at the Masters, Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee for the second time in five years and will miss at least four weeks while he recovers.

The announcement, which Woods made Tuesday night on his Web site, was a surprise to everyone except those around him.

“He’s been having a lot of trouble,” swing coach Hank Haney said. “He doesn’t talk about stuff like that. He doesn’t want to use excuses, you know? I don’t think it affected his play. It affected his practice a little bit.”

The surgery was performed in Park City, Utah, by Thomas Rosenberg, who also operated on Woods’ left knee in December 2002. Woods also had surgery in 1994 on his left knee to remove a benign tumor.

“I made the decision to deal with the pain and schedule the surgery for after the Masters,” Woods said on his Web site. “The upside is that I have been through this process before and know how to handle it. I look forward to working through the rehabilitation process and getting back to action as quickly as I can.”

But he will not be able to defend his title in two weeks at the Wachovia Championship. And he most likely will miss The Players Championship the week after, one of only three non-majors he has never missed since turning pro. Provided rehab goes as expected, Woods hopes to return at the Memorial on May 29.

The U.S. Open begins June 12 at Torrey Pines, where Woods has won six times in the Buick Invitational. Such is his dominance on the cliffside course north of San Diego that when he opened with a 67 on the South Course this year, a caddie standing behind the 18th green remarked, “He just won two tournaments with one round.”

Indeed, Woods went on to an eight-shot victory in his 2008 debut, the first of four straight victories this year.

But it was not necessarily a pain-free affair.

“Tiger has been experiencing pain in his knee since the middle of last year, and when he had it looked at by his doctors, arthroscopic surgery was recommended,” said Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent at IMG. “Tiger has played through the pain in the past, but knew it would be better for him to have the procedure done as early as possible.”

Steinberg said the surgery repaired cartilage damage. The 2002 surgery drained fluid from around the anterior cruciate ligament and removed a benign cyst.

Woods was limping and wincing toward the end of the ‘02 season, and it was not surprising to find out he had surgery that kept him out two months, most of that over the holidays.

This time, it only made sense upon reviewing the past nine months.

Woods stumbled and grimaced ever so slightly at Southern Hills last August in the PGA Championship, when he chipped in for birdie behind the eighth green in the final round and backpedaled for a fist pump. In the final two PGA Tour events, in Chicago and Atlanta, he occasionally would press his left foot against a cooler, presumably to stretch his knee.

But it sure didn’t affect his golf, not even at the Masters, where he finished three shots behind Trevor Immelman.

“He hit 14 greens in regulation on Sunday,” Haney said. “Hard to say it was the knee.”

Woods won the Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship in consecutive weeks, then tied for second behind Phil Mickelson at the Deutsche Bank Championship. That was his last loss until late March, the longest winning streak of his career, which covered five PGA Tour events, the Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour, and his unofficial Target World Challenge in December.

“I knew he was going to do something this year,” Haney said, referring to surgery. “I just didn’t know win.”

Woods has a remarkable track record when returning from a long layoff. After the ‘02 surgery, he won three of his first four events, including an 11-shot victory at Bay Hill.

This will be the second time in two years, however, that he missed a chunk of time between the Masters and the U.S. Open. He sat out nine weeks in 2006 to cope with the May death of his father, not returning until the U.S. Open at Winged Foot. He missed the cut for the only time in a major since he turned pro.

Torrey Pines is more familiar turf, even if the setup for the U.S. Open will be vastly different. Woods won the Buick Invitational this year for the third straight time, and he also won there as a junior.

In the meantime, his absence is a blow to the Wachovia Championship and to The Players Championship, regarded as the fifth major.

“Of course, we’re disappointed when Tiger is unable to compete in a PGA Tour event,” commissioner Tim Finchem said on the tour’s Web site. “There is really never a good time for an athlete—especially one of Tiger’s caliber—to take weeks off from competition during the season. But his health concerns have to come first.”

Of greater concern might be the fact Woods has gone through surgery twice on the same knee in five years. He has looked immortal at times on the golf course, already winning 64 times on the PGA Tour and 13 majors, second only to Jack Nicklaus.

Could this slow the pursuit?

Woods won 30 times and five majors since his last surgery, and Haney expects nothing less.

“This is something he’s already used to,” Haney said. “He deals with stuff incredibly, like you would expect him to.”

Source

TaylorMade has never been one for offering up boring product designs. The Rossa Monza Spider's radical new shape and eye catching paint job continue this tradition. Marry the stunning looks with extreme MOI and AGSI+ and TaylorMade has another winner on their hands. Today we'll have a look at this technologically advanced putter which has been tearing up the PGA tour.

Background

TaylorMade engineers focused on giving the Monza Spider increased stability and forgiveness because poor impact quality is so frequently the cause of poor putting among all levels of golfers. Even tour professionals frequently miss putts because they fail to hit the ball with the center of the clubface. With most putters, when impact is made toward the toe or heel, the head twists and the ball rolls off-line and finishes short of the target. Off-center hits also impart different types of spin compared to center-hits, contributing to inconsistent distance and direction.

To increase Monza Spider’s forgiveness, TaylorMade engineers had to increase its moment of inertia (MOI). They found three key ways to accomplish that:

A steel wire-frame head construction similar to that used in the Monza Corza™, which allows them to position increased weight at the perimeter, adding stability on mis-hits that helps the putterhead resist twisting when impact is made toward the heel or toe.

A light and strong aluminum core that allows more weight to be positioned on the perimeter, increasing MOI.

Monza Spider’s “wings,” into which Movable Weight Technology™ (MWT®) cartridges are inserted, allow substantial weight to be concentrated in areas far from the face, helping to move the center of gravity (CG) rearward, which increases MOI and stability. Of course, another benefit of the Monza Spider’s MWT is that it also gives players the option to customize its feel by changing the weights to make the putterhead heavier or lighter and/or to change the putter’s balance.

As for great roll, Monza Spider has the advantage of Rossa’s renowned and tour-proven AGSI®+ (Anti-skid Groove System Insert) Technology. AGSI+ features 14 polymer-filled grooves in the face that “hold” the ball briefly at impact to promote forwardspin for a smoother roll and more accurate results. The AGSI+ insert, in concert with the putterhead’s extremely high MOI, also delivers superior consistency in forward roll on off-center hits, something not shown in tests of other popular putters.

Download the Complete Product Brochure (PDF)

Look and Feel

Spider's Alignment Aid

So, putters are generally fall into the love/hate type of relationship. Some players find a putter they love and stick with it for ever (See Tiger Woods). Some players seem to change putters as often as they change golf balls (See Mark Calcavecchia). One thing most everyone will agree with is, the putter needs to first fit your eye then feel right in your hands. You certainly do not want to be making your most important strokes on the course using a club with which you do not feel completely at ease.

In steps the Spider. I will be the first to admit, when I first saw pictures of this putter, I thought wow, how could anyone putt with that thing. Then I saw it in person, and the look grew on me in a heart beat. The putter is quite large, this is true, however, you do not have the overall impression that you are putting with anything larger than a normal mallet style putter. The TaylorMade engineers have done a wonderful job hiding some of this detail from you at address. I am not sure what it is, but I find myself focusing more on the sleek metal part of the putter extending from the front of the blade, rather than the 'abdomen' of the spider. It has a very nice...yes...sleek...look to it.

If you have hit an AGSI/AGSI+ putter in the past, you probably have a good understanding of the feel off the actual insert. Similar to other grooved insert putters, you get a little bit of a momentary grip to the clubface feel. Hard to explain, but, putt with it enough, and you'll notice it. The rest of the feel is quite solid and the putter feels very well balanced in your hands. Given the size of the putter, I was surprised to note that the club felt rather light. I also have a TaylorMade Rossa Monza Corza putter, and that feels noticeably heavier in my hands. I do not have an actual weight of the Spider off hand, but overall, it just felt a little lighter, could be the balance of the club.

Overall, I was very impressed with the look and feel of the Spider. Putts off the center of the face felt solid and provided very pleasant feedback. Putts slightly off center toward the toe/heel also felt reasonable as well. You knew you did not 'pure' the putt, but, you felt as if the putt still had a chance.

Performance

Off center performance of this putter is absolutely remarkable. I hit countless putts off the toe and heel, and was continually amazed at the result. Loss of distance is minimal and the putts still held their line. The putter head really does resist twisting and can make up for a pretty poor stroke from time to time. It is tough to say there are any quick fixes out there, especially in the putting game...but I cannot see how this club wouldn't at least help a few of your poor strokes on the green.

The alignment aid on the Spider is rather interesting. I generally line up my putt by using the alignment aid on the ball, line that up with a spot or the actual hole. Then I will use the putter's alignment aid (the little nick line or whatever on a traditional putter) to the line on the ball. Make sure I'm square to the target line, then trust the alignment. The Spider has that big line down the middle that makes that pretty easy, but the little half moon lines are interesting as well. For me, it just helped reinforce my faith in my alignment. For someone who is accustomed to using a two-ball style putter, these little half moons would probably help ease the transition.

Distance off the face seemed very consistent. Once I was able to get the speed down, my confidence grew with this putter and I really thought I could sink a putt from anywhere. The really great thing is, you know you have a little margin for error there. Little off the toe, little off the heel...your putt will probably still go around the same distance. And with the AGSI+ insert, skid seemed to be greatly reduced on longer length putts, getting that ball rolling very quickly.

Conclusion

A lot of people will immediately dismiss this putter on looks alone. Fair enough, if you are a traditionalist, blade style putter, yes, this putter may not be for us. But I would suggest at least picking one up when they start showing up at local golf shops. Take a few swings, see for yourself how it works for your stroke. A piece of equipment is never a cure for all that may ail your swing, however, this one goes a long way toward making up for little sloppy mistakes.

In the end, it comes down to your putting stroke and a putter in your hands that you feel confident and comfortable with. Is this the one for you? I couldn't tell you, soon enough you should be able to find them and give it a test drive for yourself. If you have simply fallen in love with the looks, the TaylorMade Rossa Monza Spider is available in retail stores for $199

You can also find some of these Spiders creeping their way onto eBay. As usual, check the seller's feedback, there are a lot of shady sellers on the bay.

Sean on "Leadbetter Congratulates Trevor Immelman"

CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla.—David Leadbetter and the entire David Leadbetter Golf Academy family congratulate Trevor Immelman on his championship victory at the 2008 Masters Tournament.

“I’m absolutely thrilled for Trevor!” say David Leadbetter, coach to Trevor Immelman. “This victory validates all the hard work on his game that we’ve put in over the last few years.” Leadbetter, who grew up in Immelman’s native South Africa, began working with Immelman in February of 2005.

Immelman showed the poise and conviction of a true champion as he held off Tiger Woods and Brandt Snedeker en route to his first major championship win. Immelman, 28 years old, becomes the first player since 1980 (Seve Ballesteros) to lead or share the lead in every round thanks largely in part to his great ball striking, leading the field in fairways hit and ranking 2nd in greens in regulation and 3rd in total putts. With many seemingly easy opportunities to falter and drop strokes over the final 9 holes on Sunday, the then 29th (currently 15th) ranked player in the world converted several late missed greens to close the door on his victory.

Following a scare earlier in the year when doctors discovered a benign tumor on his diaphragm, Immelman struggled to return to his impressive 2006 PGA Tour Rookie of The Year form, in which he won the BMW Championship. Slowly, with time spent with Leadbetter at his World Headquarters in ChampionsGate, FL, Immelman began to take steps in the right direction towards his winning ways. "I started chipping away at a few things, and I was missing cuts but just trying to stay positive because I knew I was improving week after week.” said Immelman. “Here I am after missing the cut last week, Masters Champion. It's the craziest thing I've ever heard of. "

Leadbetter went on to say, “His performance on one of the most difficult stages in golf was a true joy to watch. Trevor’s swing stood up to the rigors and pressure of some of the most trying conditions we’ve seen in years at Augusta National. I could not be happier for Trevor and his family— he is such a tremendous talent, and I truly believe that this is just a sign of things to come.”

Was that ball flight tracker cool or what? It is pretty neat to see the actual trajectory of shots hit by PGA professionals. It would be amazing if they could make that technology real-time, always showing it when the players hit their shots. A little reminiscent of the NHL's attempt to make the hockey puck glow, but in a much less 'arcade' like fashion. Kudos to CBS, or whoever brought that technology to the air.

Looks like we will be able to watch some of the Masters at work..err..I mean, while we're at home, on our computers.

** Update **

Live Video from Amen Corner

Live Video from the Driving Range

CBS will put an extra hour per day of coverage of the Masters golf tournament online to drive Web traffic to CBSSportsLine.com.

The live streaming coverage will start one hour before television coverage begins on USA Network on April 5 and 6, and on CBS on April 7 and 8.

The new "Masters Extra" programming builds on the "Amen Corner Live" feature at CBS SportsLine, which will show replays of the golfers navigating the legendary 11th, 12th and 13th holes at Augusta National Golf Club. In 2006, CBS SportsLine served 3.4 million video streams from Amen Corner.

"Masters Extra" will be produced by CBS Sports and use the network's regular lineup of announcers, who will cover the entire field as they play the earlier holes on the course.

Source

The live Amen Corner and Driving range coverage they had last year was pretty cool, it's nice to see CBS building upon that. Perhaps someday they'll have continuous coverage all day while any players are playing. I'm sure they could get a fair sized audience, willing to pay for the service, if they offered this, in a resolution comparable to that of the TV shows on iTunes.

If watching the Masters online isn't your cup of tea, you can always actually buy yourself a Masters Badge and watch it in person! They seem to range from about $235 for practice round tickets, to a whopping $5750 for an all inclusive, see everything, do everything, you get to polish Tiger Woods' shoes (ok, that was a joke) pass.
